It’s Hard Being a Black Woman Out Here! But I wouldn’t Change It!

I've been watching "Being Mary Jane." You know the drama that started Gabrielle Union that debuted in 2013 and ran until 2019. That show, to me, depicted what we as professional Black women have to go through. We have to have to acquiesce at work, putting the happy smiley face in front of the good white folk and then try to do our jobs the best we can, all while fighting for our morals.

To top it all off, we have to be pillars for our families. We have to be the example of what the Black race should look like, trying our damndest to be perfect. And if that wasn't bad most of us are doing it alone while trying to chase the elusive black love myth. Y'all don't get excited. I know black love exists, but it's elusive for those of us who live life alone.

Black women help everyone even when we're hurting. We stand strong when others cannot. We push through and win elections! Yes, I had to throw that in there! You go, Stacy Abrams.

And yet, the Black woman is invisible. She is expected to be seen and not heard. Her opinions don't count. Y'all know what I'm talking about! Y'all see it everywhere you go. A Black woman in the board room suggests something, but it gets ignored. Johnny offers the same thing, and it gets the praise.

Well, all that's gonna change cause this year right here, 2021, is the year of the Black Woman! Yay, big ups to Kamala Harris – Madam Vice President! So Black woman, stop apologizing for your blackness. Be unapologetic about loving you and the skin you are in, the curvature of your hips, and the plumpness of your lips. Don't sell yourself short, my sister. Stop shucking and jiving at work. You are a Boss. You are confident. You are beautiful. This is your time to shine!

I am proud to be a Black woman, and I want the world to know it!

Stay Flawless, stay fabulous until we meet again!
