I don't know about you, but I like to be grabbed by the book immediately. I want something that's going pull me into the book and make me want to read more. Some say an excellent prologue would do that. Others say that adding a prolog is a lazy way or an inexperienced writer's trick. So what is a prologue anyway? According to Scribendi Inc: A prologue is used to give readers extra information that advances the plot. It is included in the front matter and for a good reason! Authors use them for various purposes, including: * Giving background information about the story. For example, in a sci-fi book, it may be useful to include a description of the alien world, perhaps in a scene that illustrates its essential characteristics and functioning, so as not to confuse readers by plunging them into a completely foreign world in the first chapter (and having to explain it then or leave them lost, which may lead to disinterest). * Grabbing readers' attention with a scene from the story. The author could pick an exciting scene from the middle of the story to draw readers in and make them want to keep reading. * Describing a scene from the past that is important to the story, such as a fire where the main character's father is killed, which is the motivation for the action in the novel.Giving information from a different point of view. The story is written in first person, and the Prologue is in third person. The Prologue focuses on a secret of one of the characters (which the main character would have no way of knowing, and the author would not otherwise be able to tell the reader due to the first person perspective). * Expressing a different point in time. For example, the Prologue may be about the main character who is in her eighties and who is remembering her childhood, which is when the story takes place (and which begins in Chapter 1) (https://www.scribendi.com/advice/how_to_write_a_prologue.en.html) As with anything, you, the author, has to decide what is best for your body of work. I always say that writing a story is personal to the author. They have creative control. Now, authors may need assistance with a few techniques, but the creative part is all up to them. Don't be afraid to explore

I believe the book was right on time for today’s dating scene. With online dating and social media, it’s easy to get involved with someone that you really don’t know or really didn’t qualify – meaning you didn’t do the work to see if the potential partner has the qualities you are looking for or has the mental capacity to be present in a committed relationship. I loved the fact that book emphasized the necessity of men stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for their actions in relationships. You rarely see that. Self-help books, blogs etc. always advise the woman to be the super sleuths to find out all she can about the potential mate and make sure that she guards her hart. Yes, I agree that women still have to be diligent in guarding her heart but I do feel strongly that men have an important role in protecting her as well has his heart as well. I believe it’s high time that men and women start acting like adults when it comes to pursuing relationships, say and do what you mean. Lastly, I felt that when the author demonstrated that the principles in this book work by revealing he went back and made it right with his college sweetheart. That shows the reader that by doing the work, loving yourself and being open to the process you can actually have solid relationships. Get your copy

The thing that I get asked the most as an author is how do you write – meaning, do you outline your project first or do you just jump in. I know there’s so much information out there that says you should outline your project, develop your plot, and characters. But, I’m a little different. I like to see where the story takes me first. Writers know that when you start a project, the characters seem to take over and go where they please. You may have a story about Sally and Jim building a life together in harmony when all of a sudden Sally sees Bob, who’s intriguing in ways Jim is not. The next thing you know Sally is chasing Bob, who has no clue about it and Jim is plotting to kill him because he lost Sally because of him. Let your characters in your story guide you. You can always come back and outline and develop them a bit once you get going. In fact, I definitely, do that a lot. I jump in and start writing the story and then come back to outline it. I improve my plots as well as the characters by circling back to outline the story. I feel the story is more genuine this way. However, if you feel that you need a guideline or map, by all means, outline the story. But have the courage to let your stories grow organically. Let your stories breath a life of their own. You’ll be happy you did.
To outline or not to outline, that is the question! content media

To Support or not to support Last week Nike shocked the world – well Americans by announcing and releasing a two- minute commercial featuring the controversial Colin Kaepernick. It was a beautiful commercial that spoke to belief in one’s self, be the best that you can be and don’t quit ever. “Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything” is now my favorite quote! What do you believe? A. Hell nah Nike discontinue the commercial B. Hell Yeah Nike – just do it! Continue to support the cause. Y’all know that our political environment is a hot mess right now. With Cohen, Manafort, and the Russian probe how much more can we take! Well some of you may not of heard this story – On August 22, 2018 Y’all’s president sent the following tweet: “Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. “South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers.” @TuckerCarlson @FoxNews” What he’s referring to is South Africa’s policy of land redistribution. In a recent Wall Street Journal article, the African National Congress (ANC) is planning to change the constitution. It wants to allow the redistribution of land without compensation to overcome the inequalities in land ownership during Apartheid. Under the Apartheid system the white-minority rule, which only made up 8% of the country’s population, own the majority of the land. Still today they own 73% of agricultural land. South African President Cyril Ramphosa and other ANC members, quickly denounced the rhetoric of Trump and that awfully racist tweet! It appears that South Africa is putting in a real effort to right the racist wrongs of the past. It seems to me that America can take a page out of their play book! Trump mind your business, you about to be indicted! Leave your thoughts comments feelings reactions?! Another mass shooting. A high school in South Florida experienced a mass shooting on February 14, 2018. There were 17 people killed by a 19-year-old gunman. He purchased an assault weapon legally. Innocent children gunned down. Their lives cut short. They will never get to experience growing up, pursuing a career, having children of their own. Terrified survivors pleading with Trump and the Republican administration to do something. Trump addressed the nation. He blamed mental illness as the major culprit of this massacre. He said nothing of gun control. I ask, why does a teenage need a AR-15 rifle? Why does anyone need an AR-15 rifle? Yes, I am for the 2nd amendment, however, I don’t believe you need assault weapons. Pistols to protect yourself and property but assault weapons, come on!!! What do you think? How should we reform our right to bear arms system?

Happy New Year everyone! You got a clean slate. You have 12 months to make things happen. What are you going to do with your clean slate? I was listening to a podcast on Happyblackwoman.com and got some very valuable advice. In the podcast, it was explained that to create the year you want you have to do 3 things. First was to review the past year. Look at what went well and what didn’t. From the things that didn’t go well find the lesson and vow not to make the same mistake. Second, preview the coming year. List things that you would like to accomplish. Take the lessons from the prior year and then apply the solutions to the next. Make a list of goals and create a template on how you want to accomplish them. Third was to purge. Purge all of the things that didn’t work for you form the prior year and get rid of them. You can purge things like past failed businesses, relationships, and friendships. The goal is to go into your new year with a clean heart, soul, and mind. I particularly like the third step, purge. This is something that I didn’t really think to do. It makes sense to get rid of everything that’s holding you down or everyone that’s holding you back. Ultimately you want to press forward with your goals by surrounding yourself with positive go-getting people. I plan on incorporating this purge step into my yearly ritual of planning my year. I hope this helps you jump start your year. I know it helped me! If you have any awesome tips and rituals that you do to get your new year off to a great start please share in the comments!

It’s a new year! Now so many people will be searching for new love! One popular way to find new love is from dating sites. There’s a plethora of sites out there from the free to the paid. When it comes to these dating sites, some philosophies are that if someone pays for a site, then the quality of candidates will be better. I’ve tried a number of sites paid and non-paid and I’m not sure there’s that much of a difference. In my opinion, it’s hard to get to know someone with a computer separating you. Don’t get me wrong, I think internet dating is a good thing but when a person continuously communicates via the computer or text you can’t get to know them very well. It leaves me with the notion that the person is trying to hid something. So, internet dating – good? Bad? Is it for you?

Now that Trump has a victory under his belt with the new tax reform bill, can we expect to see him become presidential? Can we trust that he will pass legislation that will help all Americans and not just his white, male, rich conservative base? I’m not sure that we can count on him. His tax reform bill is supposed to help the middle class. A $20 difference in my paycheck from the tax cuts is not a break for the middle class. We need some serious reforms where salaries increase significantly to where the middle class doesn’t have to choose from buying groceries to taking their children to the doctor! Your thoughts?

Determined to avenge themselves after the humiliating defeat of Roy Moore for the Alabama senate seat, Republicans were even more determined to push through the tax reform bill. This tax reformed bill is touted by Trump as a huge tax relief for the middle class. However, most economist state that the very rich and corporations are the biggest winners. In fact, this tax reform bill is wildly unpopular. Recent polls show that approximately 48% of the population disapprove or this bill. Most economist state by 2027, there will be a tax hike of approximately 31% for the middle class. The tax breaks will remain constant for corporations. According to the Trump administration, the corporate tax break will trickle down providing better salaries and more jobs for the middle class. Now, most economist refer back to the Regan era that provides the best indicator that this in fact will not happen. But hey maybe the Trump administration knows something that the best economist don’t! You be the judge. Do you think that giving corporations huge tax breaks would trickle down to the masses?

Some argue that if the United States implements stronger gun control laws then that is affecting the 2nd Amendment the right to bear arms. Now I may be wrong but I haven’t heard many advocate, that no one should bear arms. The main argument is keeping guns out of the hand of those who do not have the capacity to be responsible handling guns. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people and tighter gun control would help keep guns out of the people’s hands that mean harm. Should America strengthen the gun control laws?

Ok so by now you’ve heard about the three Trump aids – Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos who were charged in Robert Mueller’s special investigation into Russian interference of the presidential elections. They were indicted on 12 counts including money laundering, operation as unregistered foreign agents, failing to disclose overseas bank accounts and making false statements to federal agents. George Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his interactions with a professor with ties to the Russian government. All roads lead to Trump in some way. Trump as usual took to twitter trying to deflect the spotlight off of himself and onto one of his two favorite people, President Obama or Hillary Clinton. This time it was Hillary’s turn. Y’all heard the saying birds of a feather flock together. Well Trump’s cronies are his cronies for a reason. Judging by emails and one in particular indicting that a low-level employee should travel to Russia and not Trump shows that there was some kind of colluding going on. Y’all can believe what you want to believe but I tend to believe that Trump was mixed all up in this Russian thing! What do you think? Chime in and let your opinion’s known!
