The Whine-Wine Blog
Because every rant, rave or whine goes down better with a great glass of wine!!
I had a dream the other day about mean girl syndrome. I was talking to some girls about a conference and the one girl looked at me and said it wasn’t for me. I felt dejected but somehow ended up at the conference anyway. To make a long story short the other girl who witnessed the other one being mean to me ended up needing my help with her final presentation. I helped her and for my final presentation, I spoke about the wonderful uniqueness we all have and how we learn from each other.
I don’t know why I had that dream. Perhaps it was because I had to confront a bullying coworker this week. Or perhaps it stemmed from the conversation I had with HR about why they chose a person half my age half my experience and who had very little education compared to mine. Or maybe it was because when I was speaking with someone else on the job about they said I’m glad you had the courage to question it.
Have we as African Americans acquiesced so far down the rabbit hole just to fit in – assimilate that we’ve mastered the don’t rock the boat mentality? Shouldn’t it be our right to question things that aren’t right? Or is it just my generation? We don’t question we just go with the flow!
I think we can learn from the millennials. You know “Black Lives Matter” and such! We have to stop being passive. Being passive allowed a racist in the White House! People let your voices be heard. Help one another. And Oh, the ones that are receiving the help stop fucking it up so that person who helped you would be compelled to help more!! And once you’ve been helped pay it forward!
We are not going to get anywhere alone! We have to stand together – and fight!
You all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! I will see y’all in 2019! Thanks so much for your support this year!!!
Until next time, enjoy the journey!
